Purple Island is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Qatar. The beautiful of Purple Island is it’s immensely gorgeous flora and its a home for many birds.
It’s approximately 50 kilometers north of Doha. This vast piece of land is called Purple Island because of Purple dye that used to be made in this area a few hundred centuries ago.
This place is a must-visit especially if you have children they will love it all the interesting creatures they will find there. We spotted various birds, crabs and fishes.
At the entrance of the island, there’s a long broadwalk that takes you towards the hillocks and desert.
Under this broadwalk, you will find numerous tiny fishes and sneaky crabs. This is your chance to fish them. Don’t forget to carry a slice of bread or two and throw in the water. You will see hundreds and hundreds of fishes feeding on the piece of bread. It’s magical to watch it from above.
Instead of following the crowd and going straight after the broadwalk, we took the path of the right and reached this gorgeous spot with the ground full of seashells and surrounded by mangroves.
Some of the hillocks are easy to climb but be extra careful if you have kids. Also I would say go at least a few hours before the sunset and make the most of the view. The sunset from the hillock is breathtaking, especially during the winters.
Around the mangroves are cluster of aerial roots so be vigilant not to step on them, you could be harming the trees if not your own self.
We also spotted several kayaks in the water, you need to make a prior booking in case you are feeling adventurous. We didn’t make a booking in advance so we couldn’t try it. But we will definitely going back for a kayak adventure.
Last but not the least, if you are a photography enthusiast or planning a family or wedding photoshoot with a professional, keep this place on your list for its stunning landscape and sunset views.
