Ever since I moved here to Qatar, I have been trying to plan our meals as much in advance as possible because a little prep beforehand will never hurt especially if you are always on-the-go. I have become a total freezer girl, I freeze every possible thing I lay my hands on, from eggs to bread to veggies to pizza.
Also I, did a post on how to have an organized freezer before Ramadan, which is just what I follow and it helps me in saving a lot of time and energy, every single day.
I decided to do this details post on how to freeze beans because I came across of a lot of methods for freezing and this one is what I have been following and loving.
Here’s what you will need to do:
Wash and the chop beans in desired size. I cut them small, so that I can directly use them.
Bring a pot full of water to boil, and dump beans in it. Leave it on stove, boiling for 2-3 minutes.
Drain the water in a colander.
Keep a bowl of ice water ready and quickly toss the beans from colander to the bowl of ice water. Leave for another 2-3 minutes.
Once the beans are all cooled, drain the water in a colander once again.
Gently pat them dry. Preferably with a cloth. (I used kitchen towel, and had the wet beans stick to the paper. Separating them was a mess)
Put them in a zip-lock bag or an air-tight container. Leaving some space for beans to expand in the freezer.
8. Seal the bag. Leave a hole, slide a straw through it and draw all the remaining air from the bag, that way it will work like vacuum seal.
9. Lay it flat in the freezer for 2-3 hours.
Once it’s nicely flat and frozen. Stack the bag with other frozen items. Flattening of the bag before freezing will help you save a ton of space in your freezer. Have a question? Leave it in the comments below and I’d love to answer it for you. 😀
