Anmol SSC has been on my wishlist, ever since the brand released it, but since I no longer stay in India, I knew it was a distant dream. I also have a brand new Boba back home but I never got hold of it yet, again because it’s there India. So technically Anmol SSC is my very first soft structured carrier, which is a thing good because I didn’t have any baggage of feelings towards any brand, to begin with. (Meanwhile I also reviewed Anmol Wrap on the blog)
Before getting to the review part, I will walk you through the basics. Basics – as to what an SSC is, how it works, how it’s different from other carriers etc.
So what is a Soft Structured Carrier?
A soft structured carrier, mostly called as SSC or buckle carrier is a modern version of the usual Mei Tei to create a quick, more structured carrier. With number of brands coming up in the market, soft structured carrier are probably the most widely used carriers at the moment and while every other country is coming up with their own version to suit the budget and taste of the customers, how could India not?
Why SSC?
If you don’t really like the idea of long pieces of fabrics hanging around your body, or if you hate pulling the fabric around you, then SSCs are for you. No loose pieces of wrangling fabric or messy knot. Just clean and sturdy buckles and you’re sorted.
About the brand Anmol:
Anmol is Rashmee’s brainchild. Based out of Mumbai, India. Anmol offers a variety of baby carriers including hybrid wraps, woven wraps, standard and toddler soft structured carriers. Anmol doesn’t have any stores or showroom as of today, but I’m quite sure, they will come up with a few in different parts of India in the coming years.
Why Anmol SSC?
Anmol SSC is India’s first First Certified And Tested Ergonomic Baby Carrier. One year after starting Anmol, it’s announced the winner of the KidsStop Press Award 2015 for Best Mommy Venture.
Anmol SSCs are available in a wide range of handwoven/ hand printed fabrics, which makes it both useful and fashionable All Anmol SSCs are truly made in India and 100% cotton.
Features of Anmol Toddler Soft Structured Carrier:
It allows two-position carries and comes with adjustable hood for your sleepy baby.
It also comes with a waist pocket for you to store your phone or keys. I like the hook and loop part of the pocket a lot, because it makes accessing very easy.
The buckle are extremely sturdy and firm. These clasps so well that, I used to struggle with them initially. Opening and closing seemed difficult, but now I’m accustomed it. And I understand that they need to be really firm for your child’s safety.
The shoulder straps and thigh cushions are nice and padded which makes carrying a breeze both for you and your child.
My Impressions:
I really like the design and functionality of the Anmol SSC. I also like the cushion-y straps and sturdy buckles. When I first wore my two year old, I really loved it. But she thought I was performing some kind of stunt and cried her lungs out.
So I had to wear my four year old, to try and see how it worked. She thoroughly loved it. Though it doesn’t give her knee-to-knee support, as she’s a little tall for her age. But she still loves being worn and carried around. And I think it’s absolutely fine as long as she’s comfortable.
Now a little into our own journey of baby-wearing, I have always been a baby-wearing enthusiast and you all know it. But with my husband, it’s a different story he’s more of a reserved and shy person. Initially he never agreed on trying any baby carrier. He always thought it was a very girly thing. And I’m not exaggerating it when I say, off late he has thoroughly fallen in love with our Anmol SSC. Yes, miracles do happen, just hang in there and keep bugging your husband. He will want to willingly try and take up baby-wearing sooner or later.
Wearing:
If you are a beginner it might look slightly intimidating, but in no time you will learn and excel at putting your child in and out of the carrier. For any troubleshooting you can also check out Anmol Baby Carrier’s YouTube Channel.
Heat:
I stay in a country where temperatures fluctuate between 50 degrees – 6 degrees, depending on the season. And we have worn both our kids on both hot and chilly days/night. In summer it would get a bit sweaty when we were outdoors. But indoors was never an issue, given that we have air-conditioner running all day, all night.
Can I do chores while wearing it?
Absolutely, that’s what baby wearing is for. Don’t you think so? It let’s you do all that you need to do, while having your child snuggled up with you. No hanging pieces of fabric, no spreading out. It’s totally my type. Husband and I have worn our children while working around in the kitchen, shopped for hours, went to the beaches, went on evening walks, local book stores and pretty much everywhere else with out any problem.
Is the baby comfortable?
Trust me when I say this, yes, my children are very comfortable. The carrier provides good deep M-position to the baby that makes them feel comfortable even if they are been worn for long hours at a stretch. We prefer back carrying for most of the times, for the ease of it. But sometimes when I’m working on my computer or when putting the baby to sleep, I do front carry. I prefer back carry, while my husband loves front carry.
What’s the cost of ssc?
Standard SSC ranges from 3700+ and goes up to 7500, and toddler SSC upto 8300, depending on the material of the soft structured carrier.
Retail Avaiability:
Anmol carriers are available in a large variety on their website. Not available in stores as of now. That said, they often set up their booths at local city fairs so if you are based out of Mumbai, India you have an added advantage. Or even if you aren’t from Mumbai you can still try and see Anmol carriers for yourself by attending local babywearing meets in your city.
TMB Rating: 4.5/5
Do I recommend it to other parents?
Absolutely. If you are parent already and don’t own any soft structured carrier. Then I would say, begin with Anmol Basic and you will not regret it.

Hi Prabhjot. Nice to know you want to baby-wear too. However selecting a baby carrier is a very personal choice depending on your own comfort and style. I suggest you to try out a few before investing in one. Which city are you based out of? Also are you on Facebook? There are Babywearing groups on Facebook where you can join and learn more about different babywearing gears available. Good Luck 🙂
