This week we did a very fun yet simple activity with Zayd. I have wanted to get one of those sand boxes for homeschooling but since they are very expensive and I wasn’t able to hunt them down here in Qatar. I decided to make our very own tray by up-cycling.
To begin with, I made coloured salt using food coloring and salt. Put them in a ziplock bag and gave it a good shake until I had coloured salt. That’s it.

For the tray, I reused an old packaging we saved from our iPad. Apple makes really sturdy and minimal cartons. I thought it’d look perfect for a writing tray.

I covered the inside of the box with plain white A4 size paper and glue. Also secured the border of the box with transparent tape. That’s all I did for the tray.

Zayd had a blast writing the numbers in salt with finger. Later on he wanted to try it with pencil. It felt so happy and I’m satisfied with the way the whole activity turned it.

You should totally give it a shot. It’s easy and simple yet so much fun for children.
